How do I buy a knife?

You can’t simply buy a knife online here. You need to contact myself directly so that I can verify that you are legally permitted to purchase a knife, and also so that I can build a knife that meets your needs. For example, if you are left-handed, or have specific grip requirements, this is essential information I need to know before I start work for you.

Can I buy a knife set?

Yes, all pairs come with a drop point and zipper knife combination from the working tool range. Supplied with a hygienic double kydex sheath and removable 9oz leather belt loop.


How do I look after my hunting knife?

Stropping after use is essential to maintain sharpness and performance. It is important also to make sure the knife is cleaned in warm soapy water then dried before being stored in a dry, secure space when not in use.


What types of knives do you offer?

I craft a variety of hunting and kitchen knives, including:

Do you offer engraving on knives?

Yes, engraving is available on all knives. Whether you are purchasing for yourself or as a gift, I can personalise your knife to your specifications.


Do you sell stropping kits?

Yes, I offer stropping and maintenance kits that include a double-sided leather paddle strop, stropping compound, and a microfibre cloth to keep your knife in top condition.


What materials do you use for knife steel?

AEB-L stainless steel is used mainly, SF100 is available on request.

01 tool steel can also be used on request if you prefer a carbon steel.


What materials do you use for knife handles?

I offer a variety of handle materials, including synthetic and natural woods. Natural woods are stabilised where needed. Pit Pony handles with glow-in-the-dark liners. Availability may vary.


Are your knives suitable for left-handed users?

All knives are ambidextrous by default, but I can craft left-handed sheaths upon request. Please let me know when placing your order.


Do you make kitchen knives?

Yes, I handcraft a kitchen knife. This is a Santoku-style knife, which is superbly balanced and ideal for cutting meat, fish, and vegetables.


What is Damascus steel, and do you offer it?

Yes, I offer Damascus steel hunting knives, known for their sharpness, durability, and beautiful patterning. These knives are made from high-quality powder-based steel with excellent corrosion resistance.


Do your knives come with a sheath?

Yes, all hunting knives come with a high-quality sheath, either full leather wet-moulded or Kydex with leather belt loops for easy removal and cleaning in right and left hand.


Do you ship internationally?

Please contact me to discuss international shipping options. Availability may depend on local knife laws and import procedures.


What is the legal age requirement for purchasing a knife?

You must be 18 or over to purchase a knife and must provide proof of age before your order is processed.


Where are your knives made?

All James Penny hunting knives are handmade in the UK to the highest standards, combining my expertise in engineering and hunting.
